This website received the Director’s Award from the Electronic Media Communications department at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College in 2018.
The Story of the Stage
The Story of the Stage is a collection of stories about performing artists and their experiences. It was coded using Adobe Dreamweaver, nearly all from scratch.
Communication Problem
Many people are unaware of the benefits of being involved in performing arts.  Those involved in performing arts have amazing stories about the positive impact performing arts have had in their lives.  These stories are not easily accessible to others, unless they already have a personal connection to these individuals.
Planning
There were many stages of planning for this project, including research, a project pitch, an evidence portfolio, a formal project proposal, proof of concept, mood board, content strategies, sitemaps, and wireframes.
Solution
This project shares their stories in a way that makes them more easily accessible to others.  I did this through photographs and written biographies on a multimedia website, including videos of their past performances.  Social media accounts were created to further help share their stories, and bring viewers to the website to read more.
Additional planning documents and details for this project can be seen on the portfolio site for my time in the Electronic Media Technology program at UCBA.
The Story of My Degree Project
You may be familiar with the concept of a capstone project required for college graduation. Many programs at colleges and universities require such projects as a way to culminate the knowledge and experiences that students have gained during their time in the program. At UC Blue Ash, the Electronic Media Communications department has a similar project for the students in their Associate of Applied Science program. They refer to this capstone project as the Degree Project.
For my Degree Project, I decided to share the stories of dancers and musicians and the positive impact that performing arts have had in their life. I wanted to share this story so that those without involvement in performing arts could become aware of the benefits that come from involvement. I did this through photographs and written biographies on a multimedia website, including videos of their past performances and other media related to their stories.
To say that my Degree Project was a challenge would be an understatement. This project pushed me to, and then past, my limits. It pushed me to do my best work. It challenged me to think outside the box and consider alternative perspectives and solutions. It helped me to grow into a more experienced professional as I prepared for my future career. I’m not sure I could ever fully describe how amazing this experience was in a way that would do it justice.
Each year the top Degree Projects are determined by the Degree Project Review Panel using established criteria. Based on that, the highest-ranking Degree Project each year receives the Director’s Award from the Electronic Media Communications Department at UC Blue Ash College. In April 2018, I was awarded this honor in the website category for my Degree Project. I am truly honored to have received this award for my Degree Project.
